Henge is present at the 36th Conference of the National Geophysical Group of Solid Earth, to be held in Trieste from 14 to 16 November 2017.

GNGTS is the annual reference meeting for national research in the field of geodynamics, seismic characterization of the territory and applied geophysics.

The work “Application of Geophysical Methods to the Study of Bound Architectural Heritage for the Restoration Works Planning” will be presented in the poster session 3.2 “Geophysics Applied in Surface Contexts”.

We will discuss about the application of non-invasive geophysical methodologies to the study of architectural heritage having historical, artistic and cultural value under restoration works planning.

The use of non-invasive methods offers the added value increasing considerably in the case of absence of documentation about the features of the structures and when the protection rules exclude the possibility of using most diagnostic methods and make difficult or impossible the accurate data collection.

In the proposed case study, the 3D Elasticity Tomography Method, the Georadar Method with High Frequency Antenna, the Thermographic Method were applied.

The geophysical surveys were carried out on the bell tower of an ancient church in Sardinia, where the need for restoration efforts required the in-depth analysis of available information and the determination of useful parameters for restoration planning purposes.

The use of non-invasive investigation methods in the study of architectural and cultural heritage is an increasingly widespread and consolidated reality.

The results allowed the completion of the planning phases and the inception of the approval procedure.
